Drive through shopping - what a great idea

I hope Tesco's new online shopping trial is a success and it is rolled out to my local town.

The idea is simple.  Order online, drive into the  car park, flash your card and your shopping is put in your car without having to leave your seat. At only £2 it is much cheaper that the delivery option.

How to Keep Young

I don't always read emails with attachments, but I received one from a good friend in Canada that caught my eye.  You might have seen it already, it is titled Reflections and talks through the ages of life and tips on how to keep you.

Four tips that caught my eye are:

  • keep cheerful friends
  • keep learning
  • enjoy simple things
  • surround yourself with what you love

These are so true in my life.  What are your tips to keep young?

Prince Harry in Lesotho, a place I love

I read with interest of Prince Harry’s visit this week to see victims of poverty and HIV at Sentebale, a charity he founded to support Lesotho's orphans and vulnerable children. This ITN documentary tell's about his work.

The Starfish Story

Posted in

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out.  If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”

What are your life values?

A good work colleague attended his friends funeral recently and his daughters read out a long list of values as part of his eulogy - "What my Father Taught me".  My colleague commented that they were a wonderful set of guiding principles and values – not only for bringing up children, but also for life.

I reviewed the long list and after some deep thought, I chose my top five.

I am glad I am not at school.... Would hate to be forced to have fitness tests like reported in the BBC news article Call for child fitness tests in schools.

Money does not buy happiness, but giving away £2.7m can help

They say that money does not buy happiness. Getting and having I agree with. But if you can use or give your money to help others, then this can bring happiness to them as well as to you. As I travel the world, I see how money can help others less fortunate than ourselves in many ways.

Visiting Our Lesotho School

Posted in

Twelve of us arrived Tue 9th at Mokoallong High School to be greeted by almost 400 children singing and dancing.

Seeing the BT PlayPump in action was really amazing. They love their roundabout and their smiley faces show how happy they are as the spin around. Other children push each other to get to the tap to fill their bottles.

Later on we walked around the classrooms giving each child fruit, biscuits and sweets.

Opposite the school we visited an HIV care centre and listened to the amazing work they have been doing.
